Happy New Year, Phoenixborn!
We hope your 2026 is filled with Ashes, whether you're battling other Phoenixborn or repelling the murderous children of dragons.
Fulfillment is now complete for every region save Canada, but we received word that Canadian fulfillment will begin today (the 13th of January). Finally!
Thank you, everyone, for backing our project and helping Ashes thrive. We also wish to thank our Canadian backers for their patience as we work to get Ashes into their hands. We hope you'll find the wait was worth it.
So what's next? Once Canadian fulfillment is complete, we will announce it here so it's officially on record. But we have also wrapped up the first expansion that will appear under the Ashes Ascendancy name, and once we get a little closer to its release, we will share a preview here. It's gorgeous, has lots of new player cards, and the new Dragonborn is cool. Oh, and if you're interested, this set will also feature a Phoenixborn illustrated by Fernanda Suarez!
May you always roll animals!
Good News for UK And a New Episode of the PHG Podcast

– Thu, Dec 11, 2025 at 10:42:59 AM
Sorry to send out an update a day after the last, but we thought backers in the UK would be pleased to know Zatu Games has informed us they will begin fulfillment tomorrow (Friday the 12th) or Monday (15th).
We've just released a new episode of the PHG Update, which you might enjoy as it's primarily about getting started in Ashes. It contains much of the same content as yesterday's update, but Nick, the designer of Ashes Ascendancy, has some fresh insights. Click to here to view it on YouTube.
Finally, we've received word that some backers have seen Ashes Ascendancy in retail, specifically in the UK and Australia. The official Ashes Ascendancy street date for retail was set a while ago as January the 21st, and naturally we had to hunt down the monsters who failed to respect our wishes. Sadly, it turns out the monsters are us. We failed to properly set the street date for, you guessed it, the UK and Australia. We're sorry for the mistake and wish to clarify that the blame is entirely on us. We want backers to receive their products first. We reached out to our other distribution partners and stressed the importance of the official release date, and so hope to avoid further errors there. Again, the mistake was ours and we apologize for it.
Fulfillment Update and How to Get Started

First thing's first, let's discuss fulfillment!
Asia: Complete. You should have your pledges now.
US: Ongoing, nearing the end. Many of you have your pledges and some will have them soon.
UK: Zatu Games has everything, but we're still waiting on a response for when they intend to begin shipping.
Aus/NZ: Fulfillment begins this week!
EU: A strike in France held up Ashes in port, but our French partner just told us they now plan to begin fulfillment this week!
Can: This is the bad one. After many requests for communication from our Canadian partner, we just learned yesterday they failed to pick up Ashes in China in a timely manner. To say we are displeased is an understatement. To combat this issue we are shipping our partner the stock we intended for US retail. Shipping our retail stock will get Canadian fulfillment completed far faster than waiting on a boat, but it does mean fulfillment will begin early January. We apologize to our Canadian backers for this delay, and promise we will do everything we can to get your backer rewards to you as quickly as possible.
Okay, Plaid Hat, I've got a ton of new stuff. Where do I go from here?
First, if you're new to Ashes and ordered more than the Ashes Ascendancy Starter Set, you're probably wondering how to get organized. If you got the Ashes Big Box, you're already off to a good start. Begin by getting your dice and tokens out of the way and sorted how you like.
Next open up all those cards. While it might be tempting to sort them in all kinds of ways, don't! For now, keep them organized in their pre-constructed decks. You're going to want to learn the game with those precons before you begin diving into deck construction. If you got the Big Box, those dividers will help you figure out which cards go to which deck, though they should already be grouped more or less together.
Hey, I have two dividers that don't have cards!
That's as it should be! Because Red Rains: The End of Argaia, the final Ashes Reborn set, wasn't being released until after the Kickstarter, it wasn't included. But we did include the dividers in case you pick that expansion up later.
Okay, I'm organized. Now where do I start to learn this game?
Why, the Ashes Ascendancy Starter Set of course! Use the included decks to learn the rules, and play a couple games with a friend, or alone against the Dragonborn. Both player decks included in the Starter Set were designed to be ideal for new players, and Scatha Kalani, the first Dragonborn, was also designed with this in mind. Danielle at DaniCha just received her backer rewards and made an overview video you might find helpful. Check it out here.
Once you feel comfortable with the rules, try battling Scatha Kalani or your friends with any of your pre-constructed decks.
Okay, I've battled against the Dragonborn. How different are the Chimera?
The Dragonborn solo/co-op system was built off the one used for the Chimera. Overall, we think the Dragonborn is a refined, more intuitive experience, but the Chimera are a whole lot of fun to battle against. The rules are very similar, so they won't be too hard to learn. We've made a reference to help new players who know how to battle a Dragonborn, learn what the differences are. Click here to view it.
I want to build a deck!
Yeah you do! While there's nothing wrong with being a casual player who sticks to precons (and lots of Ashes players do!), many players enjoy designing their own decks. The best way to start is by making adjustments to your precons. Pull out cards you don't want, and put in cards you do. It's especially fun to begin using different magic types together and seeing what happens.
But it doesn't have to be guesswork! After 10 years, there's a lot of Ashes content online to help you get started. We highly recommend visiting the Ashes Wiki, a fan-run site that has a wealth of information on Ashes, including some of the best deck-building advice you'll find.
If you prefer building decks digitally, try using our Print on Demand site. You can look at any and all player cards here, design your own decks, and even check out decks that other people have made for inspiration.
Okay, that's all for now! We'll send more updates as fulfillment continues!
Quick Shipping Update

Hello, we are on our way to PAX Unplugged in Philadelphia where we will be at Booth 2651. If you're there, drop by, say "hi" and sit in on a demo of Ashes Ascendancy! We won't have many updates this week since we'll be at the convention, but we wanted to let you know what we know.
Asia shipping is wrapped up. If you haven't received your pledge yet, you will soon.
The US shipment arrived and is en route cross country to us. We couldn't get it prior to the convention, but we will be ready to begin fulfilling 11/26 (the week after).
Canada and EU, we are still waiting for confirmation from those respective distributors. I will post in the comments of this update, once I have their updates.
Aus/NZ left on their boat a bit later than the others. We're estimating early December fulfillment there, and will provide a date once it's official.
Thanks everyone! We will provide more details as they become available.
Fulfillment is Nigh!

Monday, November 3, is going to be a big day! Three things are happening:
- If you're in Asia, fulfillment starts on Monday! We'll keep you updated as that progresses.
- For everyone else in the world, address locks and card charges are happening Monday. This is your last call to update your address!
- Ashes is arriving in the US on Monday.
For regions outside Asia and the US, we will let you know when fulfillment begins. Because it is outside our direct control, we can't give you specific details, but rest assured we'll keep you updated as information comes in.
The shipment arriving in the US will need to travel from its destination port to us in Ohio, with one stop along the way. Our current estimate is two weeks. We will notify you when it reaches us, at which point our warehouse gnomes will immediately begin preparing your shipments and getting them out the door. The gnomes have been training for this. We've switched them over to a high-protein diet and each day we see them exercising over by the forklift. They're ready!
Thank you, everyone. We can't wait for you to jump into lots of new Ashes goodness!
