A Few Updates Heading Into the Weekend

Greetings! 

What a week it has been! Tariffs came, started multiplying, and the whole thing left our heads spinning. It's ugly stuff, for sure. But we were determined not to let it stop us, and our fearless leader, Colby, came up with a good plan. We're feeling confident it in it, and apparently you are too. While we felt certain our plan would be enough to not let the project ground to a halt, what we didn't expect was the outpouring of support. Thanks for the well wishes and generosity. You guys are very much appreciated!

Earlier today we revealed another campaign bonus. This time it's another alt-art - Odette, a master of divine magic, illustrated by the talented Martin Abel. Martin has been the primary illustrator for Summoner Wars, and we absolutely had to ask him to make an alt-art for us for this campaign. It'll be coming to anyone who pledges for a tier with a physical reward.

We also unveiled a new video highlighting the POD site and how it works. Yes, we're very excited about the potential for POD and Ashes, and many of you are too. One common question is, why does the POD system insist on us making a legal deck? Why can't I make anything I want? The answer is the POD site is brand new, and development on it continues. There's a lot of functionality we have planned for it, and we'll announce updates on it when appropriate.

Tariff Update

As you might expect, we’ve been getting a lot of questions from backers about how US tariffs might impact their orders.  It's an incredibly volatile situation and nobody knows what it will be 4-5 months from now.  With that said, we have developed a game plan so that you can back with confidence!

First, our printer has a facility outside of China, capable of perfectly matching the quality of their Chinese facility. We're looking into moving our production there. We'll let you know if that's possible, and if so, how it will affect our timeline.

If production in the alternate facility isn't possible, then our plan is this:

  • First, the tariffs will only effect orders for people living inside of the US. If you are outside the US, you can back without worry.
  • If the tariff on China is at 54% or less, we will not pass the cost on to US backers. Plaid Hat Games will handle the tariffs, and you can just enjoy playing Ashes.
  • If the tariff on China is above 54%, we will NOT mark up your order by the percentage of the tariffs (see below).


    Before the products ship from China, if US tariffs are above 54%, we will send out a backer survey notifying US customers of what the additional cost will be.  At that time, US backers will be offered 3 options:
     
  • Commit to pay the quoted tariff cost.
  • Cancel your order and have it refunded.
  • Delay bringing your portion of the order over to the US until tariffs drop to 54% or lower. (If you fail to answer the survey within a one-week time period, you will default to Option 3.) We have the ability to store our products in China at little to no cost to ourselves.

    Again, we will NOT mark up your order by the percentage of the tariffs.  We will not seek to maintain our profit margin, and will instead pass just a portion of the tariff costs on to you.  Here are some estimates of what those costs would be if tariffs are at 125% (as an example):
  • If you ordered just the Starter Set, your additional tariff charge would be around $5.00.
  • If you ordered the All the New Stuff, your additional tariff charge would be around $15.00.
  • If you ordered the New Player +, your additional tariff charge would be around $18.00.
  • If you ordered the ALL IN, your tariff charge would be around $35.00.

We will not allow the tariff situation to stop us, and you can count on Plaid Hat Games to provide you with open and honest communication every step of the way. We will provide more updates as the situation changes!

New Unlock Revealed, and the Big Box Video You've Been Waiting For

Hello!

We hope you had a great weekend, and are excited to spend your work week distracting yourself with the Ashes Ascendancy Kickstarter campaign. Don't worry, we won't tell your boss!

First up, we revealed the second unlock today, and it is none other than the return of Fernanda Suarez! Fernanda was the first and only illustrator associated with Ashes for those early years. If you love the art of Ashes, a lot of what you're appreciating is the aesthetic she established. Plaid Hat Games is thrilled to have Fernanda contributing to Ashes once again. The scope of Ashes is simply too great for any one artist to illustrate everything themselves (And Fernanda would know!) but she will be illustrating a number of the Phoenixborn who will be released in upcoming Ashes Ascendancy projects.

Keep your eyes peeled, as we'll be revealing another unlock later this week!
